MANY people have walked through the doors of Ledbury RFC since its establishment in 1883, none more remarkable however than Trevor Bethell.

It was with great pride and fondness therefore that Ledbury hosted this years Bethell tournament. What made the event even more memorable however is that after several years in the wilderness Ledbury outplayed local rivals Bromyard, Upton and Tewkesbury in an ardently competed tournament to become the 9920/00 season victors.

On what was a very warm sunny afternoon a good group of vocal spectators witnessed what has become a communal celebration of Trevor's contribution to local rugby.

Rivalry and handbags were fierce from the offset with the first game between Upton and Tewkesbury intensively competitive, Upton pulling of a narrow win. The second game between local rivals Upton and Ledbury produced a similarly spirited game this time with Ledbury finishing the victors.

Bromyard produced some of the form displayed of late with an animated display in all three games and were unfortunate not to clinch a victory.

Competition was tight between all teams with very few points separating the squads.

On the whole the tournament was played in the spirit encapsulated by the tournament's founder with many enjoyable moments and good solid display in both attack and defence by all four teams at the need of what has been a long hard season.

Many thanks to all involved both playing and organising and also to the two referees Roger Brennon and Mark Tovey for their contributions.
