ONE of the country's oldest-established companies is to change its name after 150 years.

From July 1, well-known auctioneers Russell, Baldwin and Bright will be known as Brightwells.

The decision to change the name of the company has not been taken lightly.

RB and B, as it is fondly known, has become synonymous with the region's farming activities across seven livestock markets and has extended its operations over time into quality equine bloodstock, fine art and four-wheel-drive vehicles.

Fourteen years ago the company sold its estate agency arm to Hogg Robinson but has now decided to re-establish itself in the quality residential and agricultural property markets, having recently opened new premises for its commercial property and lettings division.

As the RB and B name was not available for the new business and to avoid continuing confusion, the directors decided to rename the whole operation.

"Everyone in the company has been involved in the re-branding process," said vice-chairman Terry Court. "Their commitment and enthusiasm is outstanding."

More details of the developments under the new Brightwells banner will emerge over the coming weeks. In the meantime, the region can look forward to brand new sale boards springing up with the backing of one-and-a-half century's experience.
