Ledbury Town Council is planning a meeting with a Herefordshire Council dog warden.

Issues to be dealt with include the extent of dog fouling, the scarcity of disposal bins on the New Mills estate and the need for prosecutions as a warning to pet owners.

Coun Phil Bettington, chairman of the town's environment and leisure committee, said: "Once it's made public that someone has been caught for dog fouling, that will make people stand up and take notice."

But Coun Bettington added that, as far as he knew, there have been no recent prosecutions for dog fouling in Ledbury.

Town clerk June McQuaid said that the dog wardens "don't come until called and then only to deal with a specific issue".

Coun Noel Roberts said: "Hereford has a dog warden, which we pay for and we're not getting what we pay for. We should demand these services."

Coun Roberts, who is to attend the informal meeting, said there were no special bins for disposing of dog dirt on half the Town Trail and a similar lack of bins on the New Mills estate.
