JOBS may be lost in Kington if a controversial waste site gets planning permission, according to local residents.
Hereford planners have received a 134-signature petition and numerous letters slamming the development planned for the Hatton Gardens Industrial Estate.
Whilst Kington Town Council agrees that the facilities are needed, it has been unanimously voted that the location would be 'totally unsuitable.'
Petitioners fear for the safety of children and say access to the ambulance station on the estate could be affected.
"We also believe that the opening of this tip could result in the closure of some of the other businesses on the estate, including the possible loss of a business which is one of the largest employers in Kington," said Jeff Edington and Carol Roddy.
They claim that they do not have the right to air their opinions at council meetings and say further meetings have been time-tabled for the day, when many residents are unable to attend.
In a strong letter to Herefordshire Council, they pointed out that some of the businesses require a sterile environment and said an influx of vermin and insects would compound matters.
