A HUSBAND and wife have died in a two-car smash at Woofferton near Ludlow.
The 73-year-old man and 71-year-old woman from Monmouth, whose names have not been released, were travelling east on the B4362 when their Vauxhall Astra and a Mitsubishi Shogun were in collision at the junction with the A49 on Tuesday afternoon.
Despite paramedics efforts to resuscitate the couple, their injuries proved fatal and they were flown by air ambulance to the Selly Oak Hospital at Birmingham. They were certified dead on arrival.
The driver of the Mitsubishi Shogun, 41-year-old Timothy Beddows, from Longtown, and his passenger, escaped with bruising and shock. The road was closed for over two hours.
County councillor for Woofferton, Adrian Coles, said: ''I am saddened to hear of yet another tragic accident at this terrible accident blackspot. For the past decade, I have fought alongside Richard's Castle Parish Council for road improvements on this stretch.''
Witnesses to the accident are asked to contact 3006 PC Hollis at Ludlow Police Station on 01743 232888.
An inquest will open today at Ludlow.
