A PROCEDURAL problem means that of two seats available on Bromyard Town Council only one will be filled by election.

Six candidates have put themselves forward for the contest on March 8. The seats are free following the resignation of Councillor Bernard Hunt and the disqualification of Councillor Bernard Haycock.

Town Clerk Mike Cresswell confirmed that one winner would be decided by vote, with the other, possibly the runner-up, taking a seat through co-option.

Mr Cresswell said the situation arose out of a procedural problem relating to an election for the second available seat.

One signature on the list of 10 calling for a contest was found to be unregistered.

"A second election can't now take place," said Mr Cresswell.

Final nominations for the election on Thursday, March 8 are: Derek Alan Campbell, Gillian Beverley Ann Churchill, Alan Frederick Gates, Edward John Harris, Brian Russell Johnson, Gordon Weston.
