Hereford Acoustic Target Shooting Club has received a windfall of £3,824 from the Awards For All scheme, funded by the National Lottery.

The club, based at Hereford's Royal National College for the Blind, has 15 members and is open to anyone who is visually impaired, as well as students at the college.

Two of their shooters, Carole Brown, who won the British Blind Shooting Championship at her first attempt at Wolverhamp-ton in February, and Vikki Thomson, will represent Great Britain in the World Championships in Holland next month.

Club secretary Derry Laviolette is on Great Britain's reserve list for that competition.

Club coach Harry Hancox said: "We are delighted to receive this award which will enable us to improve our facilities.

"Among the things we can do is add another shooting lane and buy a left-handed rifle."

Blind shooters use air rifles fitted with a photo-electric cell which converts light reflected from special targets into sound which varies as they zero in on the centre.
