Westfields 0 Lye Town 1

WESTFIELDS' three-match winning run in the Premier Division of the Banks's Brewery West Midlands League came to a disappointing end after they dominated the game from start to finish.

The fortuitous win gave Lye a double over their opponents as they had previously recorded a 3-1 home win in October.

The home team started confidently and Derek Craddock opened up the Lye defence after 15 minutes to give striker Tim Powell a clear sight of goal, but his angled drive struck a post.

The visitors scored the all-important goal midway through the half when Paul Parker nodded home Andy Glover's corner from close range.

The home team stormed back and both Powell and Craddock went close to equalising, the latter with a 20-yard drive which was cleared off the line by a defender.

The second half followed the same pattern and Kevin Gwillim and Craddock both tested the Lye keeper, while Mark Hibbard went close on a couple of occasions.

After seeing a header flash inches over the bar, he was denied a penalty when sent tumbling in the area after 76 minutes.

Still the chances flowed as Adam Godwin went close with a header from a pin-point Matt Morris centre and then the frustrated Powell could only look on in disbelief as his shot was cleared off the line.

The Lye defence hung on grimly and were relieved to hear the final whistle.
