THE HGTA Herefordshire Junior Football League have abandoned their league programme for the season with no improvement in the foot and mouth crisis likely in the near future.
The decision was made at the league's management committee meeting on Tuesday but cup competitions, which have reached the semi-final stage, were given the go-ahead to be played on suitable grounds.
League secretary Dave Higgins said: "All league fixtures have been cancelled and matches are null and void. But the majority of clubs decided that they wanted to go ahead with the cups and the semi-finals will be played on the weekend of April 21-22."
He said that clubs could withdraw from the cups without penalty if they did so in writing by April 15 and the HFA had given special dispensation for council pitches to be used in the city.
The finals will be played at Edgar Street on May 11-13.
