NEW childcare places in some of the county's most disadvantaged areas are set to boost work opportunities for single parents and people on low incomes.
Government has earmarked funding for a Herefordshire Council scheme that could provide up to 160 childcare places for three years, if it gets the final stamp of approval from Whitehall.
Letters have been sent out to child minders, playgroups, nurseries and junior schools to find services that may be able to provide the additional places for toddlers.
The council's childcare development manager, Ruth Sinfield, said: "This will come as extremely good news for many families right across the county. Many parents find it impossible to work because of commitments to the children. This scheme will benefit many families who otherwise could be stuck in the poverty trap."
Any providers of pre-school childcare who would like to be considered for the scheme should contact Ruth Sinfield on 01432 260859.
