MATTHEW Faucher, Herefordshire's world-ranked wheelchair tennis player, made history when he appeared in the first ever wheelchair match at Wimbledon.

The 21-year-old partnered another young prospect Shane Everitt-Sharpe in an exhibition match against Kevin Ploughman and Dave Gardner on court number 14 on Saturday.

Although the youngsters lost 6-2, 7-6 to their experienced opponents, the match was well received by a large crowd and 20 minutes was shown on BBC television.

Using the latest technology available at the famous venue, the speed of Faucher's first service was recorded at over 100 mph.
