OVER 60S -- Members of Eardisley Over 60s Club enjoyed a pleasant afternoon in the gardens and grounds of Kymin Cottage, home of Mr and Mrs S Lanham, on Thursday, June 28. This was followed by a delicious strawberry tea at Bridge Farm, home of Mrs Olive Morgan, the club leader.

MOTHERS' UNION -- The July Mothers' Union meeting will be a strawberry tea on Monday, July 16, at 2.30pm, at Ty-Melyn, Rhydspence, by invitation of Mrs D Rock.

WOMEN'S INSTITUTE -- Members of Eardisley WI and their friends enjoyed a pleasant day out in Carmarthenshire on Thursday, June 28. After a short visit to a National Trust property, the party proceeded to the National Botanic Garden of Wales where an enjoyable afternoon was spent studying the huge variety of plants and marvelling at the wonder of the Great Glass House, which has the largest single span roof in the world. They also saw many other fine examples of architecture, walks, gardens, exhibitions, galleries and shops. Organised by the Eardisley WI, a sausage and cider evening is planned to take place at Camilla Cottage, Lower Welson, on Saturday, July 21, at 7.30pm. Tickets are £6 per person and the proceeds from the evening will be donated to the Hereford Hospital New Medical Equipment Appeal.

EARDISLEY SHOW -- Due to the foot and mouth restrictions, the show, which will take place on August Bank Holiday Monday, will be much scaled down as the use of the show field will not be allowed. However, the horticultural, domestic and children's classes will be held in the village hall as usual with entries to be staged by 12.30pm. The hall will be open for viewing at 2.30pm. A hog roast will take place at The Tram Inn at around 6pm. Presentation of prizes will take place there, together with the 200 Draw and Show Bonus Draw. DRAW -- Winners in 200 Club draw in April/May were: Mrs L Davies, Mrs M Preece, Miss J Chamberlain, Mr J Praill, Miss Alice Hall and Mr B Morgan.

METHODIST CHURCH -- On Sunday at 6pm, the Circuit Service will be held at Eardisley Methodist Church. Old and new friends will be made very welcome at this service. Preachers at the 11am services in July are:July 15 - Mr J Smith, July 22 - Mr W L Beers, July 29 - Mr G Nash.

RETIREMENT -- Close on a quarter century of service to Eardisley Primary School is coming to end for head teacher Stuart Brain. His retirement will be marked by a farewell celebration on Saturday. All are welcome at the school between 6pm and11pm, and refreshments will be available.
