Hereford United may lie in fourth place in the Nationwide Conference - but they're top of the league when it comes to discipline.

The Bulls are currently leading the way in the Conference's Fair Play League, having finished second to today's opponents Morecambe last season.

The roles are now reversed with Morecambe lying second to United in the standings, and Director of Football Graham Turner said: "I think that is an indication that both sides are not over-physical."

Only two Bulls players - exciting striker Gavin Williams and defender Matt Clarke - have served suspensions this season, and both of those were for only one match after dismissals.

But that's not to say that Hereford are shirking their tackles. Far from it, as most of their opponents this season will testify.

Turner added: "In this day and age, that is a thing of the past. There is a fine dividing line between being competitive and

being dirty." He is delighted that his side is heading the table, saying: " It is something I am encouraged by. I don't think there is any merit in giving lots of free kicks away.

"You have to discipline in your side, and as a result we are a more disciplined side and better one because of it."

Meanwhile, Turner is looking forward to his side's LDV Vans Trophy debut against title rivals Yeovil Town, managed by former Bulls boss Colin Addison, at Edgar Street on Tuesday. Many were disappointed that United failed to draw a League club, having been one of eight Conference sides invited to compete in this season's competition as a new experiment.

Turner said: "Many clubs are slashing their prices for this round, which perhaps shows what lack of interest there is at League level for the first couple of rounds. Drawing Yeovil, however, almost guarantees a lot of interest because of our positions, and we expect a decent gate."
