PHIL Robinson has agreed to become Hereford United's new player-coach.

The 33-year-old former Stoke and Wolves midfielder concluded talks with United's Director of Football Graham Turner yesterday.

Robinson played under Turner's management when he was at Wolves, and Turner said: "He was a very aggressive player, totally committed and a good competitor in midfield.

"He also popped up with the odd goal which is something we were lacking last year in midfield.

"He has played under a variety of managers so we hope he will come in with some nice, fresh ideas."

Turner has been seeking a player-coach ever since Keith Downing's departure two years ago, and Robinson's appointment will enable him to concentrate more on off-the-field activities. "I'm not going to give up coaching but he will help share the load."
