THE Richard Alston Dance Company return to Theatr Brycheiniog for one evening only on Friday, November 9. The evening includes four pieces (two of which are new), as well as free pre-performance talks.

'Strange company' visits the romantic but troubled world of the composer Robert Schumann. His stormy Davidsbudlertanze sing with great arcing melodies and surges of romantic fire and are played live by brilliant young pianist, Jason Ridgeway.

'Water Music' is Richard's second new work for this season danced to the hugely popular suite by Handel. From start to finish 'Water Music' pulses with energy; rarely has music been so sunny and direct, so sure in its sense of pleasure.

The evening also includes 'Lachrymae', a set of elegiac duet's to Britten's hauntingly beautiful variations for viola and string orchestra, and a revival of the solo 'Soda Lake', inspired by the hovering stillness of the Nevada desert.

At 6.45pm Richard Alston will be giving a free pre-show talk about the evening's work which will provide some insights into the company and will provide an interesting introduction to the programme. Details on 01874 611622.
