ST PETER'S CHURCH -- Sunday, November 4 will see the long-awaited official hanging of the tapestry panels embroidered to commemorate the Millennium. They were made by local residents, together with helpers from Newent and also one centenarian, Miss Hitchman, who has now sadly died. The tapestries mainly depict saints whose pictures were taken from a special book, then enlarged and copied on to the backing material by Nell Credland, and also show the three churches of St Mary's, Newent, Christchurch, Gorsley and St Peter's, Clifford's Mesne. There are approximately 50 of these panels, and they will form a magnificent wall covering in the chancel of St Peter's church. Congratulations and grateful thanks to all those who helped in any way to produce this glowing and lasting memorial of the Millennium Year. A special invitation is extended to all these gifted and hard-working folk to join us for the special service at 10.45am, followed by refreshments.
