A petition signed by 35 youngsters has been sent to Ledbury Town Council demanding a better skateboard ramp at the Recreation Ground.

Its organiser is 13-year-old Sam Belcher, a pupil at John Masefield High School.

He said: "The ramp we have at present is broken. I caught my knee on it and I was scratched. No one would stand up and ask for a new one, so I thought I would."

The teenager took a week to compile the petition before handing it in at the town council offices.

Now he and his friends are waiting for a meeting with town councillors.

Councillors have already visited skateboard ramps outside Ledbury to see how the town's facilities could be improved. An investigation is now under way into types, prices and possible sites for a new and more up-to-date ramp.

Town council clerical officer Karen Mitchell said that any reported problems with the ramp were looked into, repairs carried out by a contractor and that the existing ramp had to pass an annual safety check.
