BBC broadcaster Bernadette Kearney will officially open Wellington Heath's new village hall.

The Ledbury-based TV presenter will perform the ceremony at 3pm on Saturday, November 17.

Neville Shorrick, chairman of the memorial hall committee, said: "She has very kindly agreed to say a few words and help us to drink the health of our new hall.

"The aim was to provide a well-built, modern, comfortable and welcoming village hall as a centre for social activities, not only for those previously available but also to accommodate a number of new ones.

"Therefore, we are now hoping to provide a varied programme of activities and events for our local community, such as mothers and toddlers, horticultural society, table tennis, bridge, whist drives, aerobics, drama group, flower arranging, private functions, concerts, talks, occasional church functions, meetings of the parish council and other committees.

"In this way, the needs of all the residents, including the disabled, elderly and the young will be met."

The new hall, which was paid for through fundraising activities, Lottery cash and grants from the Mercia Environmental Fund, Eveson Trust and other bodies, was handed over by the builders to the hall committee on October 12.

External landscaping still needs to be completed around the building. This replaced the old village hall, a converted First World War hospital hut.
