Ross-ON-WYE Lions Club has given the town's new Age Concern branch a £400 boost after hearing that the service needed £1,000 to attain charity status.
The branch, which is due to open sometime in November, will provide information and advice to the elderly from its base in Gloucester Road, formerly the home of Norman Bricknell estate agents.
Anne Gray, treasurer for the Ross branch of Age Concern, said with the Lions' help the service had nearly reached its target and expected confirmation of their application for charity status to be received soon.
Meanwhile, Ross Lions have presented £70 to the Bath Club at the Ryefield Centre for the purchase of soaps and shampoos for users.
The Bath Club provides bathing facilities at the centre for five or six elderly and handicapped people on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays.
