MARTIN Williams' observation before the game that the Ledbury pack was heavier and more experienced was absolutely right.

LEDBURY 2nd XV 45pts, OLD CRYPTIANS 2nd XV 25

From the outset, Ledbury looked very settled in the set pieces, the lineout was markedly improved, with Simon Christian catching all his own ball very cleanly.

The home pack played up the hill in the first half, and opened the scoring, with a fine break from centre Richard Kaye, Toby Blandford converted.

As the half wore on, it became apparent that the home pack was totally dominant, hooker Kevin Clunie taking seven strikes against the head. John Wilesmith managed to steal all the Cryptians front ball in the lineout, but vast amounts of possession was wasted, by either electing to kick straight into the hands of the Cryptians' backs, or scrambling around on the floor with the visiting back row.

Cryptians slotted a penalty, and with Ledbury camped on their line, managed to seize on a stray pass, the full back running the length of the field to score. Ledbury replied with a converted try from Dave Pickering.

In the second half, Ledbury slowed down their game and contained the Cryptians back row.

Ledbury went further ahead when Martin Williams scored three close range tries, all from the back of the scrum.

Further tries for Price and Kaye saw Ledbury home, although a late rally by Cryptians resulted in two tries for their evasive full back, who managed to run rings around the weary Ledbury defence.
