IN their bid to keep pace with the changing face of farming, livestock auctioneers McCartneys are responding to Lord Whitty's vision of a 'new normality' for the industry by setting up a rural professional department at Craven Arms.

Richard Gwilliam, chairman of McCartneys, said that while all the firm's rural partners would still keep their own clients and develop their own work, the new department would co-ordinate the professional activities of the partnership covering new Government schemes, planning and business consulting, and financial planning.

"These will be added to the more traditional valuation and surveying services we already offer. The new department will provide advice on the full range of matters that all landowners and occupiers will need to know about in the new world we find ourselves in."

Chairman of the new department is Les Thomas.
