WORLD-RENOWNED Hereford cattle breeder Richard Milner has chosen the high-performing Westwood Target as a future herd sire for his family's famous Wenlock Herd, based in south Shropshire.
Target, bred by R T Davies and Co of Kidderminster, is sired by the noted Irish-bred sire Oxhill Laurence and from one of the most successful breeding lines at Westwood. His dam is Westwood Biddy 88th.
Her three full brothers have been successful in their own right, including championship winners at the Perth bull sales and at Kington and Burwarton shows.
Clive Davies of Longacre, Mamble, commenting on the sale of the April 2000-born sire, said: "We are delighted that this promising bull should find such a famous home. It is further encouragement at a time when with various marketing schemes available commercial breeders are renewing their acquaintance with our versatile breed."
Mr Davies said easy and low-cost management were the key to the future for breeders and here the Hereford reigned supreme.
Richard Milner has also been in a selling mode. He has passed on the 13-month-old Wenlock Limelight, sired by the national calf champion Badlingham Beamer to the Spooner family of Leek in Stafford to work alongside the recently-acquired Haven Union Jack from E L Lewis and Son of Dilwyn.
This November 2000-born bull is sired by the national show champion Longville Raja.
