Hereford Cathedral's Golden Jubilee exhibition is celebrating the ancient connection with the Crown - not only through the evidence of major national events, but also with examples of the personal and even the trivial.

And there is one particular treasure. Hereford Cathedral's 1217 previously unseen Magna Carta - that unrivalled icon of personal liberty - begins an exhibition that includes documents illustrating Elizabeth I and her court, clothing for Henry VIII and his family, Hereford's part in a number of civil wars, royal portraiture and occasions for national celebrations concluding with the presentation of Maundy Money in 1976 by the present monarch.

The Dean and Chapter are also displaying, courtesy of Hereford City Council, two of the most important of the royal charters conferring borough status on Hereford - the City Charter of Richard I and the sumptuously decorated 1597 charter of Elizabeth I.

The exhibition will be on all year. For more details contact the visits office on 01432 374202. The cathedral shop has a selection of commemorative goods.
