ROGER Moran slipped from third to fifth in the Tran-X British Hill Climb Championship standings when he was sidelined by engine problems at Shelsley Walsh on Sunday.

Yarkhill driver Deryk Young kept the local flag flying by winning one round and taking fourth spot in another.

But it was Graeme Wight Jnr who re-wrote the history books when he recorded the first sub-25 second climb and collected the £1,000 award on offer for this achievement.

Watched by a large crowd, which included Sir Stirling Moss, Wight rocketed up the 1,000-yard course in his Gould GR 51 to stop the clocks at 24.85 seconds and win the first run-off. Tim Mason was next on 25.33, followed by Rob Turnbull with 25.55. Deryk Young was fourth on 25.82.

Wight failed to start the second round after his transmission failed and Young capped a weekend of forceful driving with a run of 25.56 to take the win. Simon Warling was runner-up with 25.76, followed by Mason on 25.83.

Craig Jones, from Tenbury Wells, drove his Morgan Plus 8 to win the modified sports car class with 31.50.
