The Horseshoe Inn Companions of Broom's Green, who are battling to save their local pub, raised £80 through a raffle for the Great Oaks Hospice campaign, which seeks to boost day care provision in the Forest of Dean. The draw was made at a 'pub night' in the village hall on May 25, to celebrate the refusal by the Forest of Dean District Council to grant change of use planning permission to turn the pub into bed and breakfast accommodation. The pub itself has been closed since May 2001.
