A former Dr Who scriptwriter who lives in Ledbury has written the latest show to be tackled by the town amateur dramatic society.

Author Eric Pringle, of Knapp Ridge, recently joined LADS and has offered them his script, Meeting Bea, for their autumn production.

LADS spokesman Paul Graham said: "It looks at the later years in the life of Beatrix Potter and is set in the Lake District. It portrays some of her eccentricities."

Ledbury will enjoy an amateur world premiere on October 15. The play was originally performed professionally at the Redgrave Theatre, Farnham, during the 1990s.

Mr Graham said: "It's a great honour and we're delighted that Eric has given us the opportunity to perform his play."

The three-night run at the Market Theatre will be especially timely, as this year is the 100th anniversary of the creation of Peter Rabbit.

No stranger to success, Mr Pringle was presented with a radio "Oscar" last year at the Sony Radio Academy Awards in London, for his Radio 4 music programme on the life of the composer, Herbert Howells.

His children's book, Big George, was published by Bloomsbury last year.
