The blank life-size cow delivered two weeks ago to Llanwarne's Art in Heaven Gallery has been transformed into a Highland Cow during the last ten days.

It left commissioned artist Harriet Birchley this week to join other bizarre 'Cow Parade' cows to graze in London's Berkeley Square.

The Highland was one of ten designs submitted by Harriet to the London organisers earlier in the year, which had included a Mappa Mundi attired Hereford.

The chosen design wasn't necessarily her favourite but did offer the opportunity for huge, decorative, ceremonial and romantic design and having been up until midnight fixing the cow's long eyelashes the night before it was due for its return journey she admitted that it has become "an obsession."

The 150 fibreglass cows go on display this week as part of a three month exhibition designed to promote the arts and raise much needed funds for ChildLine, the free 24-hour helpline for children in trouble or danger (freephone 0800 1111) and the Royal Agricultural Benevolent Institution.

The alternative public art event has proved successful in Zurich, Chicago, New York and Sydney and organisers hope to raise over half a million pounds when half the herd go to charity auction at Sotheby's in October.
