AWARDS -- A certificate and prizes awarded by the Worshipful Company of Furniture Makers was presented to Lady Hawkins' School pupil Thomas Francis by the headmaster, Jon Barry. Thomas was one of a group of students from the school who displayed work at the recent Ludlow Castle Festival of Crafts held during the bank holiday weekend. Other prizewinners from Lady Hawkins' School were Isabel Lane, Jackie Amos, David Richards, Jamie Hughes and Paul Williams.

FESTIVAL -- Winner of the highest score prize at the Kington Festival whist drive was Ann Preece, and other prizewinners were: ladies, Mrs E Waters, Mrs S Turner, Mr B Thomas; gents, Mr A Waters, Mr J Pugh, Mrs M Pritchard. Bryn Thomas was MC, and the prizes were presented by Mrs C Dennis.

FUNDS RAISED -- The sum of £2,705 was raised this year in Kington and surrounding villages during Christian Aid Week.

MASONIC HALL -- As part of the national's celebrations of the role played by freemasonry in the community, the Masonic Hall at Headbrook, Kington, will be open to the public on Sunday June 30, between 11am and 4pm. At Kington's Masonic Hall on Sunday June 30, visitors will be cordially welcomed and offered light refreshments. There will be an exhibition of the history of Kington's Arrow Lodge, which celebrated its centenary in 1988, a guided tour of the newly built lodge room, and other Masonic effects will be on display. Winner of the Kingswood day centre quiz, featuring questions on Kington's local history set by Allan Lloyd, was Dawn Jenkinson, of Gravel Hill Drive, Kington, with the exceptionally high score of 99.5 per cent correct answers.
