PLAY AREA -- Work has now commenced on the play area on the recreation field. This is the village project to commemorate the Queen's Golden Jubilee and has been funded mainly by the parish council, with a donation from the Heart of Oak juvenile fund, complemented by a grant from the Countryside Agency. When completed it will provide a much needed facility for the children of the village and surrounding areas.

SIX-A-SIDE -- Fownhope Football Club staged their annual junior six-a-side tournament over the weekend. Fifty teams totalling more than 400 players representing 17 county clubs converged on the village early on Sunday morning. The tournament kicked off at 10am and, with 108 matches to be played, had to run to an extremely tight schedule. The glorious weather ensured a good turn out of supporters and approximately 450 people passed through the gate. At the conclusion of a highly competitive day's play the finals provided some dramatic finishes. In the under-10s final Credenhill Yellows defeated fellow club mates Credenhill Blues 1-0, while the under-11s final was even tighter with Lads Club Colts needing a penalty shoot out to overcome Sutton Scorpions. Lads Club Colts then defeated host club Fownhope 1-0 after extra time in the under-13s final and a successful afternoon for Lads Club was completed when their 'A' team ran out 3-1 winners over Widemarsh Rangers in the u-16s final.
