SIXTEEN Herefordshire constituents joined 13,000 people for a mass lobby of parliament in London asking for global fair trade.

Hereford MP, Paul Keetch and MP for Leominster, Bill Wiggin were among 300 MPs involved with the event.

The county constituents were invited onto the terrace of the House of Commons for a discussion with Mr Keetch.

Christian Aid worker Dr John Dinnen said: "We asked him and the other MPs to urge the Prime Minister to campaign in the forthcoming meetings of the G8 and of the European Union for a fairer deal for third world countries to help them increase their exports to the west and to stop dumping subsidised goods such as sugar and rice on them."

Dr Dinnen added that the third world countries share of world trade was so small that, even if it doubled it would have minimal impact on the UK but would help millions of people out of poverty.

Meanwhile, Mr Wiggin was one of many MPs who climbed into rickshaws and took to the streets to greet the smiling constituents that stretched from parliament to the London Eye.

The peaceful protest was held on behalf of anyone who is suffering from the unfair advantages that global organisations exert over smaller companies.
