MYSTERY surrounds the death of a Ross-on-Wye man whose body was found in the back garden of a Gloucestershire pensioner.
Police investigating the death of 38-year-old William George Mince have so far drawn a blank on why, after leaving the Royal British Legion Club in Lydbrook, he ended up dead on the nearby property of villager Nancy Childs of Bell Hill, Lydbrook.
The pensioner, in her 80's, discovered Mr Mince still wearing the England football shirt he was last seen alive in four days earlier on Saturday, June 15.
Gloucestershire Police said yesterday (June 26) that Mr Mince died of head injuries.
Detectives are treating his death as unexplained rather than suspicious at this stage.
Mr Mince, who was unemployed, left the Royal British Legion at 10.50pm on the night of England's World Cup victory over Denmark.
Police have appealed to anyone who saw him after this time in or around Lydbrook to come forward with information to assist their investigation.
An inquest into his death was opened and adjourned until September 26 by Gloucester coroner David Gibbons.
