Police are appealing for information concerning an incident of highway robbery near the M50 and M5 junction.
The victim was knocked unconscious and later needed stitches following the incident.
However, after coming to he left the scene and is unsure as to where exactly the robbery took place.
But police believe he was attacked early on Monday afternoon, June 24, while tending to his cream Land Rover on a hard shoulder stretch of either the M50 or the M5 motorways.
West Mercia police spokesman, Georgie Bates, said: "The next thing the man was aware of was coming round and finding blood coming from a cut on his head.
"On checking the vehicle, he found that a quantity of cash and his mobile phone had been stolen."
Police are keen to find the precise location of the incident, and to discover whether or not any other vehicle was involved.
The victim's Land Rover had the words "O C Summers" written in red on the side. Anyone with information should phone PC John Jones at Hereford Police Station, on 01432 276422.
