Colwall Development XI won this Sunday friendly by 162 runs at the picturesque Stowe Lane ground.
COLWALL v OFFENHAM
Colwall elected to bat on a very warm afternoon and openers Reid Merriman and Paul Barnes compiled an opening partnership of 183 in 26 overs. Merriman was particularly severe on anything loose playing a wide range of attacking strokes.
In all he hit 24 fours in a superb innings of 155 and was assisted by captain Barnes' more restrained knock of 54. Once the partnership had been broken wickets fell in the quest for quick runs leaving Colwall 277-4 off 40 overs. Only Ahmed with 4-55 managed to take wickets.
Colwall's bowling was opened by youngsters Luke McQueen and Matty Berry. McQueen bowled a superb spell of medium pace, bowling with great maturity, he deserved much more than 1-17 off seven overs. Berry bowled a mixed bag of left arm wrist spin taking 1-39 off 10.
The rest of the wickets were shared with the Reverend Mike Vockins taking 3-4 off six tidy overs, Andy Sutton 2-23, Clive Kendall 1-7 and Gareth Bakewell 2-8 in the final over. Colwall bowled Offenham out for 115 off the last ball.
