THE people of Herefordshire fare better than many of their neighbours over the number of deaths related to heart disease.
But Leominster MP Bill Wiggin warned them not to be complacent. Heart disease was still one of the biggest killers across the UK, he said and it was vital to keep fit and healthy.
Mr Wiggin was commenting on figures recently released by the British Heart Foundation showing the progress of improvements in deaths from heart disease.
"I was pleased to learn that Herefordshire has had a lower number of heart disease related deaths between 1998 and 2000 than some of our neighbouring areas such as Shrewsbury, Telford or the Worcester and Wyre Forest area,'' said the MP.
The British Heart Foundation figures showed deaths from heart disease in the UK from 1988-1998 for men fell by 39 per cent and for women by 38 per cent. This figure was considerably lower than in some other countries.
