Children of the eighties will probably have wondered, over the past ten years, where - exactly - is Paul Young?

Aside from still touring as a solo artist, he has spent the best part of the past decade making music with a 7-piece Tex-Mex band called Los Pacaminos.

Described as being somewhere between the Mariachi and Norteno styles of Mexico and the country/blues sounds of Western America, if you have no special plans for tomorrow evening then see if Spanish songs light your fire as the band is appearing at Brecon's Theatr Brycheiniog.

Musically a world away from the recognisable hit of Paul Young's 'Wherever I Lay My Hat', the band don't even attempt to cover the popular singer's early hits.

"It's just not worth it," Paul says. "The sounds are really so different."

His biggest hits - 'Wherever I Lay My Hat' in 1983 and 'Everytime You Go Away' in 1985 were both cover versions, so it is little wonder that this seasoned singer prefers to sing it his way these days.

"There's not a synth or drumbox in sight," he says. "Just a flexible group of singers, making a lot of very different sounds."

The band's first album, recorded at Paul's house last year, met with good reviews and he has taken the decision to 'run with it'.

"It'll be a great fun night," Paul recommends. "Anybody that comes to see the band says it's a great night out."
