THE city's mayor is to sponsor one of the last few stones in the restoration of Hereford's Lady Chapel.
Councillor Alan Williams will be welcomed by the Dean Of Hereford, the Very Rev. Michael Tavinor, to the stonemasons yard at Hereford Cathedral on February 17 to see the first chips being taken from the stones.
The two sponsored stones will eventually form a diamond motif and will be set to the right of the central window.
"I am delighted to be able to support our cathedral and to be able to mark my term in office in such a permanent way," said Cllr Williams.
"The cathedral plays an important part at the centre of our civic life as well as being the principal tourist attraction within the city, county and region," he added.
