A CHARITY fundraiser is to park his milk float, hang up his banana coat and support one of the county's biggest children's organisations.

Steve Price, Moreton-on-Lugg's milkman by day and parish officer by night, is to lead a team of four on a Taste for Adventure fundraising day.

The village stalwart is already a regular at the centre, taking youngsters from the village on days out, as part of his role as parish officer.

He said: "It is part of my job to take children to the centre along with other activities such as five-a-side football."

His role as parish officer came about after a decision by the Moreton-on-Lugg Parish Council to employ someone in a link role between residents, police and council.

Trained by the police, the success of the pioneering project can be measured by an increase in his hours, from 16 to 20 per week and a dramatic fall in incidents of anti-social behaviour and calls to the police

Steve said: "My main role is to liaise with the residents and to react to events. There is no routine to my work."

Work that is welcomed by his police contact Constable Ray Bonehill: "He does a lot of work in the community as well as dealing with minor misdemeanours, domestic disputes and advice.

"He is so enthusiastic, it is wonderful to see."

Taking up the latest challenge, Steve who lives in Hereford with his wife, Jane, and son, Jacob, explained where he found the time.

"It is all down to my wife," he said. "If it wasn't for her I would never leave the house. I don't know where she finds the time though."
