Redditch 34 pts Bromyard 19
BROMYARD missed a chance to move into a mid-table position when they gave a poor performance to lose out to fellow North Midlands 1 strugglers Redditch.
Redditch made the early running and Bromyard were stretched to keep them out. They held their line and hit back when Piers Gaunt kicked Bromyard into the lead after Redditch had strayed off-side.
This was short lived as sloppy defence by the visiting backs allowed Redditch to cross for two tries in quick succession, one of which was converted.
Bromyard lifted their game and it was the turn of Redditch to defend. They buckled under a series of strong attacks to concede a couple of penalties, both of which Gaunt landed to close the deficit to three points at the break.
Imaginative play by the home backs brought another converted try to extend their lead, but Gaunt hit back to convert his fourth penalty.
Redditch stepped up a gear and their dangerous wingers ran in three tries, one of which was converted, to put the result beyond doubt.
To their credit, Bromyard produced a late flourish for Reg Dixon to dummy his way over for a try, Gaunt again obliging with the conversion.
