VILLAGERS on the city's outskirts have voted to fight for traffic calming measures, despite feedback from Herefordshire Council that there is little it can do to help.
Police and Herefordshire Council traffic managers met residents from Haywood, Callow, Grafton, Bullingham and Dewsall at the meeting on February 3, to discuss ways to make rural roads safer.
The death of cyclist Brenda Price had triggered concerns and Callow resident Vicky Murray explained her wishes to introduce 30 mph speed limits in all village areas.
John Colyer, transport manager for the council told the meeting traffic measures such as humps and road narrowing would not be an option.
He said: "A speed limit would not be enforceable because of a lack of resources at West Mercia police."
Despite negative response from the local authority and police, the villagers decided to continue their struggle for safer roads.
They passed a resolution to request traffic calming measures, including speed limits and signage, and will meet at the Graftonbury Hotel on March 10 at 8.15pm.
