PEGASUS, strengthened by players returning from injury and first-team action, produced an excellent result at Wellington to knock the holders out of the Hereford Times Herefordshire League Strongbow Senior Cup with a 1-0 quarter-final win.

Pegasus had just the better of the first half, with Keith Holmans giving them the lead on the half- hour mark but, in a game full of good football, the youthful Wellington side produced a spirited fight-back during the final quarter.

Prompted by the experience of Holmans and Leigh Harris, Pegasus forced the pace in the first half. Although Wellington keeper Jamie Hales was unable to stop a header by Holmans from a Paul Mallender free-kick, he produced two fine saves to deny Harris.

The second half started with both sides producing controlled football before Wellington started to take control but Pegasus' 17-year-old keeper James Morgan produced a number of fine saves to protect the lead.

Steve Radziejowski netted an extra-time winner to give Ewyas Harold a 1-0 home win over Woofferton after a goalless 90 minutes.

The game started at a furious pace but, although the home team gradually gained the advantage, neither keeper was unduly stretched.

The second period started when Radziejowski was pulled down, but David Cooper produced a fine save from Matt Smalley's penalty to send the game into extra time.

Radziejowski latched onto Smalley's floated free-kick to head the all important goal and then each team had a player sent off in a dramatic finish.

Hinton beat last season's losing finalists Westfields 2-0 at home with a goal in each half.

The home team took the lead after half an hour when Danny Johns side-footed home from close range following a cross from John Williams. Tim Powell had a good chance to equalise when he found himself one-on-one with the keeper, but he dragged his shot wide of the target.

Pete Lamb made the result safe with a fine individual goal 10 minutes from time.

Earlier in the week Westfields had seen off a spirited challenge by Ross United Services to earn their tie at Hinton with a 4-3 win. Their goals came from John Williams, Tim Powell (penalty), Paul Martin and Richard Legdon.

Sutton and Painters will have to replay their quarter-final after a 2-2 draw after extra-time.

A draw was a fair result in a physical encounter that produced little constructive football and few chances.

Mark Mortlock gave Painters the lead either side of the break but Gary Godsell and then Kevin Knapper produced equal-isers, the second one coming five minutes from the end of normal time.
