Westfields 4 Shawbury United 1
WESTFIELDS went two points clear at the top of the West Midlands League Premier Division with an emphatic win over Shawbury.
The Shropshire visitors were under immediate pressure from a lively Westfields with both Roy Jordan and Derek Craddock bringing excellent saves from Spanish goalkeeper Jesus Peurto.
Persistent Westfields pressure was rewarded when Scott Jackson found Mark Hibbard with a fine cross-field pass and the striker finished with an excellent strike from just outside the box.
Minutes later the talented Jackson created a second goal when Shawbury defender Dave Timms could only slice the mid-fielder's dangerous cross into his own net.
Shawbury hit back with a header from close range and an action-packed first period continued with Peurto denying Jordan before Jackson extended Westfields' lead with a deft lob after a superb pass from Paul Burton.
The end-to-end action after the break was appropriately completed when Westfields scored the best goal of a fine game. Craddock broke free down the right and whipped over a dangerous crosswhich Hibbard dummied at the near post for the supporting Jackson to hammer home.
