Walsall Wood 1 Wellington 1

FIELDING four first-team debutants, Wellington recovered from a sluggish start to share the points with West Midlands League Premier Division strugglers Walsall Wood.

Forced to reorganise after only five minutes when promising young central defender Chris Jones retired with a badly bruised ankle, the visitors struggled as their hosts belied their lowly position.

Midway through the first period Sedgley took the lead when a striker beat Wellington goalkeeper Scott Hodgetts to a through-ball to steer home the opening goal.

Wellington gradually played their way back into the game with their defensive trio of Adam Chalkley, Sam Lloyd and Liam Craig bottling up the back and the midfield starting to create chances.

Keith Jones put them back on terms in the 75th minute with a fine individual goal, holding off several challenges in a strong burst through the middle to finish with a crisp drive into the corner.

This set up an exciting finish, with Walsall missing a sitter, and Eddie Wells being denied a last-gasp winner for Welling-ton when the ball bobbled up as he prepared to strike.
