Mansfield Town 7 Hereford United 1
HEREFORD bowed out of the Midland Youth Cup in the quarter-finals to a strong home team.
They more than held their own in a competitive first half with Mansfield scoring twice and United unlucky when a fine shot from Chris Mortlock rebounded from the bar.
Fielding a couple of regulars from their Nationwide League squad, Mansfield gradually took over to register five goals after the break.
United did not drop their heads and Mortlock grabbed a deserved consolation goal.
Previously Hereford maintained their bid for Midland Floodlit Youth League Southern Div-ision honours with a 3-1 home win over fellow challengers Castle Vale.
Dean Jordan, Chris Mortlock and Adam Kite scored the goals that kept United in a share of top spot with local rivals Wellington.
They also reached the semi-finals of the HFA Giantkillers Cup with a comfortable 4-0 win over Lads Club.
Ollie Cooke, Paul Brown, Dean Jordan and Chris Mortlock scored the goals.
