LUCTONIANS are receiving voluntary help in protecting their sports pitches after an act of vandalism marred their preparations for the cricket season.
As previously reported, a weed killer was sprayed on areas of the cricket square and on parts of two rugby pitches at their Mortimer Park headquarters in Kingsland.
Officials are confident the situation can be rectified and a friend of the club, Wayne Harris, of H & H Security, has offered his services free of charge to patrol the pitches every night.
Ground committee-man Mike Bengry said: "It's a very generous offer and much appreciated by the club."
