Madam, Cutting trees down seems a rather drastic course of action to deal with a starling roost, unless of course residents do not like the trees.
One way of discouraging them is to play a tape of the distress/ alarm call of a starling when the birds are coming into the roost.
I do not know where such a tape could be purchased but it might be worth ringing the RPSB at their Central England office on 01295 253330, who may know if such a tape exists and where you might get one.
