Colwall gained a point from their clash with Portishead/ Firebrands of Bristol in a fast and furious game from start to finish.

COLWALL 0, PORTISHEAD/ FIREBRANDS 0

Both teams started well with some slick passing, both defences cancelling out attacks. Colwall gradually started to win the midfield battle with Dawn Brookes-Banks solid and making some telling passes, one of which released Karen Hackley, whose cross was deflected just past the post. Colwall had a succession of short corners and had a goal ruled out, Nina Emery's strike too high.

Colwall went up a gear after the break and stretched the visitors across the pitch creating a lot of space. Colwall's one touch passing led to the best chance of the game when Nina Emery, Karen Hackley and Sophie Harris combined well to release the tireless Hackley who beat two defenders to cut the ball back for Gemma Richards whose goalbound shot hit a defender's foot, a short corner instead of a goal.

Both teams continued to pass well and go forward but both defences stood firm, Anna Price making some good saves for the home team and the outstanding Emma Twigg a rock in the back four.

Colwall are away to Clifton II XI of Bristol tomorrow (Saturday) in another top of the table encounter.

COLWALL II 2, SHIPTON OLIFFE 1

COLWALL went into the game on Saturday knowing that a win against bottom of the league Shipton Oliffe would help in their fight against Severn Division One relegation,

Basement club Shipton also knew they needed a win and both teams started nervously. It was Shipton Oliffe who took the lead with a well placed shot. This spurred Colwall into action and their attacking play paid off when Jan Brown forced the ball home from a penalty corner rebound.

Colwall kept the pressure up and scored their second minutes before half time when a mazy run by Jan Brown resulted in Coral Handley slotting the ball home. A brilliant save by Carole Ward in the Colwall goal made sure the half time score was still 2-1.

Despite Shipton Oliffe pressing hard for the equaliser, excellent defending by Jenny Shail and Laura Entwhistle helped keep them out and it was Colwall who looked the more likely to score.

Colwall travel to Ross on Saturday hoping to carry on their improved performance.
