MAGPIES netball team were lucky again this week to win the toss and start the match as Uniswans began with the disadvantage of a player missing.

The play started fairly even with Magpies failing to take advantage of the situation and with scoring opportunities missed, the quarter ended on a very low score, 5-2 to Magpies.

Magpies started to pull together and GA Kim Robinson scored some good goals from a distance. The defence as usual was on good form to intercept Uniswans attackers. Magpies managed to pull ahead to end the second quarter 12-6.

A change of positions at the start of the third quarter with GA to GS, GS to GK and GD to GA. This was partly due to an ankle injury of GA.

Magpies continued with their excellent play of good defence, shooting and inspiring interceptions from captain Jackie Dixon as centre. WD Cathy Thomas while making an interception landed awkwardly to pull a thigh muscle and had to come off. Due to difficulty of getting the ball into the circle another low scoring quarter ending with Magpies holding on to their lead 16-9.

With Magpies a player down to even things up in the last quarter the play stayed even.

Defenders Tracy Arlott and Nickki Brandreth both had an extremely good match and never seem to get the praise they deserve. Magpies managed to keep it together to win the match 22-16.

Player of the match was Kim Robinson.
