AFTER conceding two goals in the first half, Wellington threw caution to the wind in the second to salvage a point from a 2-2 away draw with Westfields in their quest to retain the Hereford Times Herefordshire League Premier League title.

Westfields produced an inspired first-half performance with John Williams featuring in both their goals. He created the first for Tim Powell as the Wellington keeper failed to hold his drive, and then scored the second himself with a chip from Paul Martin's quickly-taken free-kick.

Westfields clung onto their lead until the final quarter but then Jimmy Powell conceded a penalty and Mark Hole netted from the spot.

After Michael Craig and Danny Amies had both gone close to scoring, it was left to young substitute Cory Hyde to force a draw when he took advantage of hesitancy in the home defence to round the keeper and slot home the equaliser.

Leominster continued their rise in the table with a comfortable 5-1 home win over Painters to move into second spot.

There was no indication that the result would be a big home win as Painters started strongly and took an early lead through Wesley Owen. Prompted by midfield duo Adie Bennett and Steve Strangwood, the home team gradually took a stranglehold on the game.

Daniel Rocke met a Marcus Jones centre and then Steve Evans took advantage of a hesitant defence to turn the score round before the break. Chris Price had already struck the post on the restart before setting up Evans for the third.

Aaron Bowden and Daniel Stack found themselves on the end of chances created by strong runs and crosses from Rocke and Gareth Jones respectively to seal an emphatic win.

Sutton produced a spirited performance in heavy conditions at Ewyas Harold but went down 3-2.

Ryan Hirons was the star in the first half, netting twice - including one delicate chip - and hitting the woodwork, to put Harold well in control at the break.

Sutton, who had also hit the bar in the first half, gained a lifeline when Gary Godsell applied the finishing touch to an Adie Morgan through-ball.

Steve Radziejowski got on the end of a long cross from Simon Macklin to stretch the lead, but the visitors refused to lie down and Glen Day gave the home team a fright.

He scored with a powerful header and another was well saved by Dave Rodgers to deny an equaliser.
