A Ross-ON-WYE Police man has invented a futuristic notice board to allow Gorsley residents to keep up to date with all the latest news from the comfort of their own Post Office.

Beat Manager PC John Cooper was the brainchild of 'Police Post' - a screen which displays local news and events as well as information about crimes and missing people.

The officer updates the information from his office at Ross Police Station by e-mail direct to the Gorsley monitor. Being the only shop in the area, the innovation has proved to be both popular and successful.

Post Office Manager Gordon Martin said: "I have heard so many encouraging comments from my customers, in particular the reassurances they feel knowing that timely information is being piped direct from Ross police station to them.

"The screen has become a focal point in the Post Office and people will take another 10 to 15 minutes in the store reading the notices before they leave."

Although the scheme cost £1,500 to install, the running costs of £4 a month are so low that PC Cooper hopes more villages in the Ross area will be able to benefit from the service in the near future.
