VOLUNTEERS are needed to help resurrect an after-school club for primary school-age children.

Dozens of youngsters up to 11 years old used to go along to the club, which ran on Friday evenings at Ledbury Youth Centre on Bye Street.

It was forced to shut last summer when work commitments prevented Anne Locke, who ran it for 15 years, from carrying on.

However, Ledbury Town Council is still setting aside the £600 a year it used to support the club in the hope it will get going again.

Now Hayley Williams, who helped supervise some of the sessions before they stop-ped, wants to restart it.

She said she would like to provide art and music activities for the youngsters, as well as things that the children say they want to do.

But to achieve this she needs two or three people to help.

"I need at least two," she said, "But three would be nice."

It would run from 7pm for an hour and a half, and volunteers would not need any special skills.

"As long as they're willing and they like kids, there shouldn't be a problem," she said.

Anyone volunteering would have their background checked by the police, but Mrs Williams said this was a quick, simple process that should not put anyone off.

Miss Locke said she would be very pleased to see the club get going again, as at its height it had been "fantastic".

She added that she would be prepared to help out for the first few weeks while the club got itself re-established.

Anyone over 18 years old who is interested in helping should call 01531 631932.
